​Meet the Board

The objective of the Board of Directors are to be a guiding light in the preservation of the heritage of the descendants of Isaac & Eliza Thompkins through educational, historical preservation, scholarships, and other charitable purposes.

Jimmy Smith, Jr.

Jimmy Smith, Jr. holds two Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer & Electrical Engineering from Florida State University with minors in math, computer science, and business. He also holds an Associate in Arts degree from North Florida Community College in which he was the President of the Student Government Association.

He currently serves as the Vice-President of Developed 2 Overcome; a non-profit organization whose primary focus is empowering individuals who are facing life challenges through motivational programs by supporting the homeless, ex-offenders, and those seeking emotional healing.

In his spare time, he enjoys working on websites for other small businesses, non-profits, and other organizations, He also loves conducting notarial duties such as officiating weddings as a wedding officiant. In addition, he loves giving back to the community in which he grew up; he gives out a scholarship every year since 2015, to a deserving senior at Madison County High School in his hometown of Madison, FL.

In addition, he is a charter member of the Sigma Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc of Orange Park, FL where he currently serves on the Publications and Alpha Derby committees.

Eddie Williams

Eddie Williams was born in Live oak, Florida, and raised in Day, Florida. He attended Mayo High School from kindergarten to 10th grade. His parents moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where he completed his last two years of high school at Dixie Hollins Highschool and graduated. 

Eddie joined the military in 1978 and served twenty two years. While in the military, he earned my Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration. With that degree after retirement, he went back to school and earned his Master's degree in Secondary Education from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. With that degree Eddie  applied his degree as a school teacher in San Antonio, TX, where he taught History, and Special Education for the next 13 years. Eddie and his wife relocated from San Antonio TX to Las Vegas, NV, seven and one half years ago.

Ronald Thompkins

Ronald Thompkins is a partner in the Florida offices of BCA Watson Rice LLP headquartered in New York City. The firm has offices in four states and the District of Columbia, and a professional services team of over fifty professionals. He is also a member of the firm’s executive committee and the firm’s national quality control partner. He serves as engagement/ concurring review audit/assurance partner on a vast variety of industries including state & local government, non-profit organizations, colleges & universities, and pension plans. He also has experience with forensic audits and consulting. 
 
He is a graduate of Howard University and has practiced public accounting since 1972. He has licenses in Florida, Alabama and New York (pending), and was a former audit manager with Deloitte, Haskins, and Sells (Currently Deloitte).

  • He is a former board member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”)); a past State President of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“FICPA”); a past Chapter President of North Dade-South Broward chapter of the FICPA; a past President and a current Trustee-Emeritus of the FICPA Educational Foundation; a member of the state and local government section; and a trustee of the FICPA PAC-South.  

  •  He has performed peer reviews of CPA firms since 1983. He is a former member of the Peer Review Report Acceptance Body for the FICPA.  

  •  Serves as a speaker at several business and professional organizations as well as community/civic organizations.

  • Previously served as an assistant professor and the director of the School of Accountancy for the University of Denver.

  •  His civic and community involvement has included Leadership Florida (Cornerstone Class XXI); chair of the board for the Alliance for Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties; the former Chair and trustee for the City of Miami General Employees and Sanitation Employees’ Pension Board; President of the Opa-Locka Rotary Club; Member of the Florida International University’s President’s Council; Member of the Florida Memorial University’s Business Advisory Council; and member of the Golden Glades Office Condominium Association, Section I 

  • He is married to Ondrea, and they have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. He is also a member of the Miami Gardens church of Christ

Lea McKinnon

Abernathy residing in the Houston Area. She is the daughter of Lincoln and Glenda McKinnon, granddaughter of Marion and Alice Douse. I am happy to serve as the Secretary and to add value to the family.

Diane Thompkins

Diane Thompkins has over 40 years of experience in nursing with a focus on nurse credentialing, certification, and advanced practice nursing.
 
Diane holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Buffalo, a certificate in Flight Nursing from the School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks Air Force Base, and a Master of Science, nursing education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
 
Diane served in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Captain. She worked for over 14 years at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center as a clinical nurse, nurse manager and nurse educator.
 
Diane began her work at the American Nurse Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center Certification Department as Assistant Director Certification. After 19 years she retired in 2023 as the Manager, Certification Accreditation and Advanced Practice Nursing. During her time at the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she routinely represented her employer and APRN certification at national nursing stakeholder meetings. Her work in nursing certification led to the American Board of Nursing Specialties renaming its most prestigious award the Diane Thompkins Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2024.
 
Ms. Thompkins is active in her church and is currently serving as church treasurer. She is a Lifetime member of the National Black Nurses Association. In addition, she is a Lifetime member in the Afro American Historical & Genealogical Society (AAHGS) and is serving as the Chair of the AAHGS Bylaws Committee.
 
Diane enjoys history, teaching, learning, traveling and most important serving as the Historian/Genealogist for the Thompkins/Tompkins Family.
